Magi things

We are the Magi, and tonight we follow a star. I am drunk with wonder.

The sky is full of the most astounding stars that guide us to wisdom and love. And the most wondrous, the most amazing part of all, is that we put them there!

Tonight people will look to a star to find their way. Another star will tell us if it’s safe to travel, or that we are wiser to be cozy where we are.

Husbands and wives, children and grandchildren, will talk into a star, and the smiles and laughter and tears and love will transmit in that moment to the people they ache to be with.

We live in the most amazing time in the history of man. I want to never stop feeling dizzy with gratitude.

A little more...

I love Christmas. When the kids were little I loved hiding gifts and hoping they would be delighted and surprised. Now they’re older, so surprise is not on the list. There actually is no list; now it’s a collection of texts with urls. That’s fine. Christmas has changed, but I like this version just as much.

I like wrangling side dishes and bottles of wine into bags, and fussing with the cling wrap while we drive. I like that every day is a different event with people we love. I like the idea we get to explode the idea of family, and build it back bigger and louder.

This holiday never stops astounding me. It’s the wellspring of the impulse to share, to grow what you have by giving something away. It’s Christmas. Have some of what I have. I am overwhelmed again.
